Football Fan Morale Meter

Tonight is the 2021 NFL Draft and will be held in Cleveland Ohio. There is a lot of banter and discussion about what all of the teams are going to be selection in this draft over the next three days (Well except the Seahawks who only have three picks). What we are going to dive into today is the morale meter of all of the Football teams and see how every team is feeling about their team right now going into the draft and eventually mini and training camps. I will go in draft order of what if that team was picking what their pick would be (example Texans #3 even though the 49ers have their pick which is a long story let me tell you). Scale is 1-5, 1 lowest and 5 highest and is scored as such.

  1. Low morale, fan depression, mistrust, no hope for the present and future
  2. Low morale, but some hope for the present and future, but not much trust.
  3. Meh, things are okay but there is some negative energy towards the team.
  4. Good morale, Optimistic, not a perfect scenario but there is good morale and hope.
  5. High morale, pie in the sky, can we please start the season tomorrow.

1.Jaguars (meter 4)

The Jags have lost 15 in a row but that is a thing of the past. The Jags have Urban Meyer and will also have Trevor Lawrence in just a few hours. Future is looking bright and Sunny down in Duvall County Florida.

2. Jets (meter 2)

The Jets aren’t at the lowest meter because there is some young talent and optimism with the hiring of Robert Saleh. But they still only won 2 games this season and is mistrust amongst the fan base about the Jets management screwing up another draft.

3. Texans (meter 1)

This is the most hopeless franchise in the league right now. Texans don’t have any cap space, draft capital and their Quarterback first wanted to traded, and now is involved in some legal/personal troubles. If there was a number lower than 1 that we could go here we would.

4. Falcons (meter 2)

There is some apathy amongst the Falcons fans currently with a string of mediocre seasons after 28-3 happened. Julio Jones is likely on his way out of town and everyone has no clue what the Falcons are going to do in the draft tonight. The Falcons are simply a football enigma.

5. Bengals (meter 3)

The morale would be higher here if Joe Burrow didn’t have a serious knee injury, good news all of the speculation is that Burrow is recovering well. The fan base believes the Bengals are on the way up but with past results is still holding their guard up.

6. Eagles (meter 1)

Even when the Eagles win their meter sits at 1 (it’s the Philly way). But with the disaster that was the 2020 Season and the curious hiring of Nick Siriani there is about as low of optimism and morale as there as been in Cheesesteak land in a very long time.

7. Lions (meter 1)

The Lions are married to Dan Campbell for the next six years (which was a curious hire to begin with). There isn’t much confidence around Jared Goff either (even though he was just in a Super Bowl two and a half years ago!). Lots of doom and gloom right now in the motor city.

8. Panthers (meter 3)

The Panthers have recently acquired Sam Darnold and the Panthers fans have some sneaky confidence about their team coming into 2021. They were 5-11 but very competitive for the most part last season. If Darnold can play to his abilities with his second chance maybe the Panthers are heading in right direction.

9. Broncos (meter 2)

The Broncos before 2017 started went 45 years without back to back losing seasons. The Broncos are now sitting at 4 losing seasons in a row and the fan base is as dejected as they have been in a long time. But still not at the lowest bar because there is a lot of young talent on this football team which holds hope.

10. Cowboys (meter 3)

There is some optimism in D town with Dak Prescott being the guy for the next few years and recovering well from his gruesome ankle injury. But the Boys are coming off a disappointing 6-10 Season and not playing past the second round of the playoffs in 26 years and counting, some negativity remains.

11. Giants (meter 3)

The Giants are almost at a 4 with them in the eyes of many winning the offseason. But what keeps the Giants at 3 is Daniel Jones. Is Daniel Jones going to be the guy? The Giants have their most talented team in years and are ready to contend next season it’s all up to Jones to make the leap.

12. 49ers (meter 4)

Niners fans are really excited about tonight as the fans think they are a stud young QB away from being back to Super Bowl contenders. This may be a pie in the sky theory but this is the morale of the fan base and 49ers fan base has very high morale for a team that went 6-10 last season.

13. Chargers (meter 4)

Stud young coach and a stud young Quarterback. The Chargers fans for great reason has a lot of optimism. The only thing that may keep it out of the 5 range is that Justin Herbert still hasn’t made the playoffs and they play in the same division as Patrick Mahomes.

14. Vikings (meter 2)

Surprisingly not a high score here for the Vikings fans. There is some serious fatigue amongst the fan base with Kirk Cousins and Mike Zimmer. Even though the Vikings are a good bounce back candidate in 2021 the fan base is on the verge of wanting a complete overhaul of this team. Justin Jefferson is awesome!

15. Patriots (meter 4)

If you think the Pats fans are down just remember that fans see last seasons 7-9 record as a result of the process and Bill is ready to make a new batch of his winning stew. We shall see what happens tonight if Cam Newton gets a 2.0 chance to revive his career as a starter or is just placeholding for tonight’s selection.

16. Cardinals (meter 3)

The Cards are certainly going for it this season with the acquisitions of J.J Watt, A.J Green and Rodney Hudson. But the Cardinals fans have serious doubts about Kliff Kingsbury and even Kyler Murray to a less degree after the second half collapse of last season, very meh morale here.

17. Raiders (meter 4)

You would think that the Raiders fans morale is low but we are still in the honeymoon phase of the Raiders coming here to Vegas and this season they finally get to have fans in the death star. Plus there is still eternal optimism that Chucky is going to bring a winner again to the silver and black, we shall see.

18. Dolphins (meter 4)

Dolphins fans are lukewarm on Tua Tagovailoa but they are very excited about the direction of this team after an under the radar 10-6 season last year. If Tua can make the jump the Dolphins with their coaching, defense and special teams could be a serious contender in the AFC in 2021.

19. Football Team (meter 4)

The Football Team fan base has some serious optimism after winning the NFC East in 2021. Even though Ryan Fitzpatrick is not their long term solution at QB there is an unwavering optimism around the fan base about the direction the Football team is heading behind head coach Ron Rivera.

20. Bears (meter 2)

The Andy Dalton signing and the lame duck coach and GM has the usually plucky optimistic fan base of the Daaaa Bears at an unusual low. It’s probably at a 2 and a half but we are putting it at a 2 because of the pure disappointment of not getting Russell Wilson (who publicly said he would play there).

21. Colts (meter 5)

We have hit our first 5 with the Colts fan base. They have a loaded roster, unwavering belief in the Coach and GM and a secondly unwavering belief that the coach will be able to revive Carson Wentz. The fans are right about one thing, if Wentz can bounce back this is a Super Bowl contender this season.

22. Titans (meter 3)

The Titans have Ryan Tannehill and Derrick Henry but many fans aren’t sure if Tannehill in particular is good enough to get the Titans over the top. The playoff loss to the Ravens was a very dejecting moment for the Titans fan base, but there is still some belief of a bounce back in 2021.

23. Seahawks (meter 3)

The Seahawks fan morale meter is surprisingly low. The reasons are pretty public, lots of internal squabbling between Russell Wilson and management and the uncertain future there. Also, Hawks fans didn’t forget losing a home playoff game to a divisional foe with an injured QB that the team didn’t want there.

24. Steelers (meter 3)

Usually a proud fan base is still wiping off the stench of a 1-4 finish and a blowout home playoff loss to their little brother (Cleveland Browns). Getting bullied by the little brother is usually going to leave a bad taste in your mouth. The fans are happy about the deserving extension of head coach Mike Tomlin.

25. Rams (meter 4)

Some serious optimism amongst the Rams with the acquisition of the criminally underrated Matthew Stafford. But what keeps them from a 5 is the Rams fans are smart (it is L.A) and they saw some of the serious losses on the defense this offseason. But overall the Rams fans are in a good place morale wise.

26. Browns (meter 5)

The Browns fans morale might be a 10 or 12 if we could go higher we would. For a fan base that had nothing to root for several years, a 11-5 record and a road playoff win over the Steelers is the best first step to the upper class that Browns fans could have asked for. Fans can’t wait for opening day.

27. Ravens (meter 4)

Ravens fans are proud and optimistic but the playoff struggles has been a little bit worry some. The fans do have unwavering faith in John Harbaugh and Lamar Jackson that this season could be the one that gets them over the top. Ravens just like last year also have a ton of draft capital, good place to be.

28. Saints (meter 3)

Drew Brees retired, but the Saints fan base is down but not out. Mickey Loomis and Sean Payton had built a lot of credibility with this fan base on their own right but the Saints fans aren’t at 4 or above because there still is some reservations that 2021 could be a transition year in the big easy.

29. Packers (meter 4)

The Packers fans will always have Aaron Rodgers back (how can you not he is one the best ever). But back to back NFC Championship game defeats puts this fan base in the optimistic but not pie in the sky category. I’m sure after another 10-2 start we can up the meter to 5 again in Northern Wisconsin.

30. Bills (meter 5)

The Bills fans have as much optimism and confidence in their team as any fanbase right now. After a 13-3 record and an AFC Championship game appearance how can you blame them. Bills fans believe that Josh Allen could unseat Patrick Mahomes and Aaron Rodgers as the best in the game this year, be fun to watch

31. Chiefs (meter 5)

The Chiefs fanbase looks at the Super Bowl as a bad day and the Bucs Exploiting a weakness due to several injuries than the sky falling. Patrick Mahomes, Andy Reid, Tyreek Hill and Travis Kelce are all still great and not going anywhere anytime soon.

32. Buccaneers (meter 5)

Come on, is there really a question to the Bucs fan base here. Let’s just show some videos of Tom Brady and crew after a boat party in February and you tell me if there is any reason for the Bucs fans to not have the pheromones’ at an all time high right now.
