Hi everyone, it’s Wednesday which means we have a new top 12. With the Draft being tomorrow we head to the biggest Questions that are involved with the draft. As always please respond, these list are made for banter and debate. Thanks again for your support and have a great day!
12. Will Drafted players hug Roger Goddell
It is a tradition when players get drafted in the first round to give Roger Goddell a big hug. That tradition was halted last season due to the COVID-19 pandemic. With the draft being back in a semi-normal setting in Cleveland and Roger Goddell and his draft chair being present will players hug Goddell when they get drafted or because of us still being on the back end of the pandemic (but still in the pandemic) Players not return to the old time tradition. This remains to be seen but is always a great social media topic.
11. When will the first defensive player be drafted
This draft has been all about quarterbacks and all of the offensive talent that we’re not expecting a defensive player to be drafted until at minimum an hour after the announcement of Clemson Quarterback Trevor Lawrence being drafted by the Jaguars. The big question is when will the first defensive player get drafted. My guess is either 9 with the Broncos or 10 with the Cowboys, but your guess is as good as mine.
10. Trades anyone
The fun part of the draft and in particular the first round is trades. We already had a big three team swap with the Niners, Dolphins and Eagles playing twister with their first round selections but who else will be trading. Usually late in the first round there is a ton of action and I don’t believe this season will be any different. The Dolphins are the team to watch with all of their draft capital and a pretty good young roster already in place to make moves either up or back throughout the draft tomorrow.
9. Will the Football Team trade up for a Quarterback
Ryan Fitzpatrick is certainly a stopgap more than a permanent solution at the Quarterback position for the WFT. The Big 5 (Not the Sporting goods store but the Big 5 QB’s in the draft) will almost certainly be off the board by the time the WFT drafts at 19. Will the be aggressive and move into the Top 10 to grab one of the highly touted signal callers, well find out!
8. Will the Bears trade up for a Quarterback
This same question applies for the Bears. Andy Dalton or Nick Foles is certainly is not the long solution in the land of super fans. The more urgent issue in Chi Town is that unlike in Washington (where job security is quite safe for Ron Rivera) the GM and the Coach are on the clock currently. Will the Bears decide that moving into the Top 10 is necessary to ensure everyone’s future. For the record drafting a great young QB did not save Anthony Lynn’s job in L.A so I don’t know if in today’s day and age it will truly matter, the Bears have to win next year or else.
7. Which Quarterback will Fall
As the trend tends to be historically one of these highly touted young Quarterbacks will fall. With the Broncos likely out of the Quarterback market now after the Top 3 picks there will still be two quarterbacks on the board. We will almost certainly have one team trade into the Top 7 or 8 to snag one of those two Quarterbacks. But the 5th and last Quarterback on that list may be waiting for a while. Ask Aaron Rodgers or Lamar Jackson about that, it’s not fun for sure.
6. Who will the Cowboys take at 10
The Cowboys get the highest ratings of any team in the NFL which is why the sports media would talk about a Dak Prescott contract dispute every day for two years. So we have to put the Cowboys on our list and ask what is Jerry Jones and company going to do with the number 10 pick. They need help all over the defense so the smart guess is they will go in that direction. Luckily for them the Top 10 will be very offensive player heavy so the Helmet Stars will likely be able to take the highest rated player on their board. A great position indeed for the big D.
5. Zach Wilson Really going to the Jets
We know Trevor Lawrence is going one and have known that for three years now. Zach Wilson number two to the Jets is a big question of mine. After one year of dominating a lot of lower D-1 schools who does Zach Wilson all of a sudden because more of a can’t miss prospect then Justin Fields and Trey Lance? It’s a very good question to ask and wouldn’t it be such great draft drama for the Jets to take Trey Lance with the number two pick. Be ready for anything here because I am expecting Zach Wilson to be the pick but also wouldn’t be shocked if it isn’t.
4. Are the Panthers and Patriots really making a trade
Wouldn’t it be pure evil to Cam Newton for the Panthers to assist in the Pats acquire his predecessor. We know it’s all business but their is a bit of devious behavior from the Panthers to go ahead and make a trade with the Pats. I think this is a high possibility as Bill Belichek has been hyper aggressive in free agency and wouldn’t be shocked at all for him to go all in one one of the Big 5 (again not a sponsor for a sporting goods store).
3. What now for the Broncos
Many pundits were almost certain the Broncos were drafting a quarterback in the first round. What today’s acquisition of Teddy Bridgewater from the Panthers says is likely the Broncos aren’t officially out on Drew Lock but are getting impatient. But they are bringing in some competition for him in camp and he has to fight to retain his job as the starter in Denver. Either way, it’s unlikely the Broncos draft a QB tomorrow and my guess is they will take one of the top corners or maybe even trade back with the WFT or the Bears so they can take a QB, again my speculation here I am not a news breaker or have sources.
2. Will Jimmy Garoppolo Be Traded
A huge question for me and many is if Jimmy Garoppolo will be traded. His days in San Fran are all but over after Kyle Shanahan’s polar opposite of a glowing endorsement of him in a press conference last weekend (when you bring the we don’t know if any of us will be alive by Sunday comment into play it’s not looking good for you). The big question for us all is since the Broncos aren’t going to trade for Jimmy G who and where would Jimmy G go if he was to be traded. What if Chicago was in on Jimmy? Those teams with great defenses and not awful offensive lines would make a lot of sense. Chicago would be a fun place and a homecoming of sorts for the Arlington Heights native (A suburb of Chicago for those who need help with geography).
1.Who will the Niners be taking third
We are assuming it’s Lawrence and Wilson 1 and 2 (as I said the Jets could shock us at 2 don’t ever underestimate the Jets). That leaves Trey Lance, Mac Jones and Justin Fields for the Niners to pick at 3. Many say the pick is Mac Jones but it’s hard for me to see a team trading three first round picks away from a Quarterback without a ton of upside who played with so much NFL talent. The truth is we have no clue what the Niners are doing but they are the talk of the draft right now and we will find out in about 27 hours what they officially do at number 3. Let’s grab our popcorn and beer and get ready, will be a fun one!
