Hi everyone, we are in the last week of the regular season which means only two more Weeks of the Power Rankings (frowny faces indeed!). We will get right to it shall we?
Season Is Over on the 4th
30. Orioles 50-106 5th in AL East LW: 30
The Orioles need to go .500 this week just to avoid 110 losses for the first time ever and are playing two teams fighting for playoffs, not happening.
29. Diamondbacks 50-106 5th in NL West LW: 29
Dbacks need to win 2 games this week to not have their worst season in club history (51-111 in 2004).
28. Rangers 57-99 5th in AL West LW: 28
100 losses for the Rangers in their first season of their new ballpark with fans, rebuilding time.
27. Pirates 58-98 5th in NL Central LW: 27
The Pirates are going to lose 100 games but go over in their over/under bet, very young team with a lot to build on.
26. Marlins 64-92 5th in NL East LW: 25
0-6 Week has put the fish into last place. A race to futility for the Marlins and Nats
25. Nationals 65-92 4th in NL East LW: 26
Hey at least the Nats who were 40-39 in late June aren’t going to lose 100 games, and Juan Soto is awesome.
24. Cubs 67-89 4th in NL Central LW: 23
The Cubs ran into the buzzsaw known as the St. Louis Cardinals last week. Where do they go from here?
23. Twins 69-87 5th in AL Central LW: 24
The Twins season from hell is about to come to a close, no one could have projected 90 losses and a last place finish.
22. Royals 71-85 4th in AL Central LW: 22
The Royals are about right where we expected them to be this year. Pitching is where the Royals will need to develop before they can contend again.
21. Rockies 71-85 4th in NL West LW: 21
The Rox are limping to the finish line. The Giants and Dodgers last week was a tough ask however, avoiding 90 losses would be an accomplishment.
20. Angels 74-82 4th in AL West LW: 20
Shohei Ohtani says he wants to be an Angel but really wants to win, that’s his way of saying let’s build a contender or I don’t want to be here.
19. Mets 74-82 3rd in NL East LW: 18
The Mets have fallen apart down the stretch, I did not see this team failing to even reach .500 this year, a mess in Queens.
18. Tigers 75-81 3rd in AL Central LW: 19
Tigers need to go 6-0 this week to finish at .500 for the season, unlikely but still a surprise frisky team in 2021.
17. Indians 77-79 2nd in AL Central LW: 17
The Indians have to finish 81-81 for the year, it is in their destiny.
16. Padres 78-78 3rd in NL West LW: 15
The Padres collapse has been completed, they could easily finish below .500 at season’s end as well. What a fall from grace from a team with high expecations.
Slim Hopes to High Hopes
15. Phillies 81-75 2nd in NL East LW: 16
The fighting Phils have their shot at Atlanta this week, a sweep puts them in first place and a series loss ends their year, love the pendelum.
14. Reds 82-75 2nd in NL Central LW: 14
The bullpen cooked the Reds this season, but Joey Votto’s resurgence was a positive sign, could contend next year.
13. Braves 83-72 1st in NL East LW: 13
Very Simple for the Braves, take the series from the Phillies they are division champs, lose the series and the weekend gets interesting.
12. Athletics 85-72 3rd in AL West LW: 10
They technically aren’t eliminated but the A’s were never a special team this season. They were consistency above average but never went on a run.
11. Mariners 87-70 2nd in AL West LW: 11
The M’s still have an outside shot of making the postseason, regardless a hell of a year for a team with a bright future.
10. Cardinals 87-69 2nd in NL Central LW: 12
16 in a row and counting for the Red Birds, a scary ask for the defending champs in the Wildcard game.
9. Blue Jays 87-69 4th in AL East LW: 8
The Jays play a three game must win series against the Yankees. Win the series to get to within one and the weekend gets very interesting.
8. Red Sox 88-68 3rd in AL East LW: 6
Playing the Orioles and Nationals in the last weeks should allow the Sox to sneak in but they do not pose much of a threat as constructed.
7. White Sox 89-68 1st in AL Central LW: 7
The White Sox have been waiting for the playoff since late May. Next week it has finally arrived.
6. Yankees 89-67 2nd in NL East LW: 9
The Yankees have come up strong down the stretch on what is still to this point a disappointing season, playoffs are a must here.
Your 5 World Series Contenders
5. Astros 91-65 1st in AL West LW: 5
It sounds erroneous to include a team with not much starting pitching but with the way they hit and the experience, the Stros must be taken seriously.
4. Brewers 94-62 1st in NL Central LW: 4
The crew recovered from the Cards buzzsaw to clinch the Central division over the weekend, run prevention is elite.
3. Rays 97-59 1st in NL East LW: 3
Rays lose Charlie Morton and Blake Snell (two elite starting pitchers), no big deal they will likely win 100 games for the first time in club history, incredible.
2. Dodgers 100-56 2nd in NL West LW: 2
Clayton Kershaw throwing up a dud against the putrid Dbacks might be the nail that buries the Dodgers chances of winning a 10th straight division title.
1.Giants 102-54 1st in NL West LW: 1
Winning home series over the historically bad Dbacks and the historically collapsing Padres will almost certainly clinch the Giants the West, miracle indeed.
