Hi everyone, all moved into my new house and will be back on a full time basis writing and discussing the happenings in the World of Sports. Thanks to the always bizzaro Seattle Mariners we have a new number 1 this week. Let’s get to the Rankings.
Bottom of the Barrel
30. Diamondbacks 21-53 5th in NL West, LW: 30
In a league where every team has dudes throwing 95+ the Dbacks don’t have anyone who throws hard. Road losing streak record set at 23 and counting.
29. Orioles 23-49 5th in AL West, LW: 29
In 2021 when your bad your really bad, Diamondbacks all time road losing is currently at 23 and these Orioles are sitting at 19 right now, 100+ it seems.
28. Pirates 25-45 5th in NL Central, LW: 28
Kudos to the Pirates for early in the season playing as well as they were. There just isn’t much major league talent on this roster, but they play very hard.
27. Rangers 26-46 5th in AL West, LW: 27
Outside of Isiah Kiner-Falefa the Rangers don’t have a player even close to an average big league hitter even under today’s standards, tough to watch.
26. Rockies 30-43 4th in NL West, LW: 26
The Rockies went 5-2 on their homestand last week against two playoff contenders in the Brewers and Padres, even the two losses were in the 9th inning.
25. Tigers 30-42 5th in AL Central, LW: 24
Great beginning of the week in KC followed by a tough weekend in Los Angeles. Still a great turnaround from what began as an embarrassing start.
Looking like Sellers better make move now
24. Twins 31-41 4th in AL Central, LW: 25
Five wins in a row for a team that can still hit the long ball as good as anyone. They just don’t have the top line pitching to compete like they have recently.
23. Marlins 31-40 5th in NL East, LW: 23
Good week in Wrigley thrashing the Cubs in back to back games. Run differential plus 18 stating they should be better than this but bullpen a weakness.
22. Royals 32-38 3rd in AL Central, LW: 21
Peaks and valley for the Royals, get swept by the lowly Tigers then they win a series against the Red Sox. A very young talented and inconsistent team.
21. Nationals 33-36 4th in NL East, LW: 22
Winners of 8 of 10 and a huge series win over the Mets has the Nationals low in the power rankings but in the right division to still make a move, talent here.
20. Braves 34-37 3rd in NL East, LW: 20
The ever disappointing Braves are thankfully in the NL East where the Mets just don’t want to run away. Opportunity is still there to make a run, time is now.
19. Reds 35-36 4th in NL Central, LW: 13
Two steps forward three steps back. The Reds had a disasterous weekend in San Diego and are still in the hunt but must find some consistent pitching.
Middle Tier but still in it
18. Phillies 34-35 2nd in NL East, LW: 18
The Phillies went 2-4 on a road trip to the Dodgers and Giants but in 2021 that is not a bad feat. Now they have an all of a sudden huge series Vs the Nats.
17. Cardinals 36-36 3rd in NL Central, LW: 16
Another middling week for the middling Cardinals. They are the epitome of an average team, good news they play in division with no great baseball teams.
16. Angels 36-36 4th in AL West, LW: 17
Angels had a rough series at the A’s but turned around and took care of business over the weekend against the Tigers, Othani watch, 23 HR, 2.70 ERA.
15. Blue Jays 35-35 4th in AL East, LW: 14
Rough series to start the week for the Jays getting swept by the Yankees at their semi home. Perfect weekend antidote getting the Orioles and won series.
14. Mariners 38-36 3rd in AL West, LW: 19
A 4 game weekend sweep of the Rays is a way to make a statement. The Mariners are an exciting young team to watch, could be a force in a year or two.
13. Yankees 38-33 3rd in AL East, LW: 15
Great week for the Yankees sweeping the Blue Jays and taking a series from the A’s. That triple play turned to end Sunday’s game was absolutely awesome!
12. Brewers 40-33 2nd in NL Central, LW: 8
Going 2-3 against the Rockies and Dbacks and having Dbacks win for first time in three weeks against you will drop you a bit, this team flat out can’t hit.
11. Cubs 40-33 1st in NL Central, LW: 7
In a division that is not very good the Cubs have some margin for error to have a rough weekend against a middling Marlins team, Javy Baez is maddening.
Baseball’s cream of the Crop
10. Mets 37-30 1st in NL East, LW: 10
Jacob Degrom now has 0.50 ERA, an 11.7 K/BB Ratio and only 27 hits allowed in 72 innings pitched. That being said Mets are letting other teams hang.
9. Indians 40-30 2nd in AL Central, LW: 12
Losing a series to the Pirates is never fun. Thanks to the Astros though the Indians still made up great ground on the White Sox and now sit 2 back.
8. Padres 43-32 3rd in NL West, LW: 11
The Padres had a rough start to the week getting swept in Denver before sweeping the Reds over weekend and winning first game against hated Dodgers.
7. Rays 43-30 2nd in AL East, LW: 1
Huge fall from grace for the Rays who had an absolute abominable weekend in the Pacific Northwest capped by Shed Long Jr.’s walkoff grand slam.
6. Athletics 44-30 2nd in AL West, LW: 5
The A’s had a solid 4-2 week and still fell out of first place. After a 1-7 start the A’s have been one of the most steady consistent teams in all of baseball.
5. Red Sox 43-29 1st in AL East, LW: 6
The Sox had a tough weekend in K.C but thanks to the Mariners still jumped back into first place. Rumors Chris Sale is on the comeback trail, great to hear.
4. White Sox 43-29 1st in AL Central, LW: 2
For a team that has been disposing justice on the American League the White Sox got smoked themselves in Houston over weekend, 27-8 in four games.
3. Dodgers 44-28 2nd in NL West, LW: 4
The Dodgers are hanging around as they are all of a sudden approaching 20 games over .500. My prediction is this team gets hot in 2nd half still wins 100.
2. Astros 44-28 1st in AL West, LW: 9
In a season in which no team can hit the Astros are hitting an even solid in the steroid era .277 as a team. That demolition of White Sox statement of year.
1.Giants 46-26 1st in NL West, LW: 3
Giants have made it to the top, 1st in NL in OPS and 1st in NL in WHIP allowed. Meaning they get on base a lot and don’t give up a lot of baserunners, legit.
