Baseball Power Rankings Week 8

Hi everyone, hope everyone had a great holiday weekend. We are through the first Major Holiday of the season and onto the Month of June. The top and the bottom is pretty set with the middle always shifting. Summer is just about here!

Will be a longgggggg Summer

30. Orioles 17-37 5th in AL East, LW: 30

14 losses in a row and counting for the O’s. In the year of the pitcher, outside of John Means the Orioles don’t have any pitching.

29. Diamondbacks 19-36 5th in NL West, LW: 29

The Dbacks just broke a 13 game losing streak themselves. Maybe Madison Bumgarner is not back, his last two starts he’s been bad.

28. Rockies 20-34 4th in NL West, LW: 25

Good news is the Rockies doubled their road win total for the year this season last week. Bad news is they are still only 4-22 on road this season.

27. Pirates 20-33 5th in NL Central, LW: 26

The Pirates get to stay ahead of the Rockies since the Pirates took two out of three from the Rockies over the weekend with a doubleheader sweep.

26. Rangers 22-33 5th in AL West, LW: 22

Congratulations to the Rangers for reviving the Mariners who were in a five week slumber before the holiday weekend, boy this team can’t hit.

25. Tigers 22-32 5th in AL Central, LW: 28

The Tigers are 13-8 after a 9-24 start. The high point of the Tigers season has to be their weekend sweep over the dumfounding inconsistent Yankees.

Will likely be a long summer

24. Twins 22-31 4th in AL Central, LW: 27

The Twins are slowing trying to dig out of the hole they created for themselves. Twins are on right track currently winning 8 of their last 10.

23. Nationals 21-29 5th in NL East, LW: 20

A 1-6 week currently has the Nationals looking to have a potential fire sale at the deadline. Juan Soto and Trea Turner are only players I wouldn’t move.

22. Angels 24-30 4th in AL West, LW: 24

We always talk about the best pitcher in baseball this year well Dylan Bundy of the Angels may be the worst with an 0-6 record and 5.69 ERA.

21. Marlins 24-28 4th in AL East, LW: 16

Rough weekend in Boston for the Marlins who were actually spared by a rainout on Sunday, or maybe they weren’t because Marlins will have to go back.

20. Reds 24-28 4th in NL Central, LW: 23

The Reds exploded for 11 runs against the Phillies on Monday but before Monday’s game one of the few good offenses had a very quiet week at dish.

19. Phillies 25-29 3rd in NL East, LW: 19

We might have to give the Phillies a small reprieve here. They were the latest victim of the buzz saw known as the team formerly known as the Devil Rays.

Outside looking in

18. Braves 25-26 2nd in NL East, LW: 17

The NL East could come down to the just the Braves and Mets. Bad news was in their one game series at NY the Mets won 13-2, inconsistent team.

17. Royals 26-26 3rd in AL Central, LW: 18

The Royals have fallen into a team that is very much in the middle of the pack. This is a team to watch in the second half, they will ruin teams seasons.

16. Mariners 28-27 3rd in AL West, LW: 21

A weekend sweep of the Rangers had turned around what was a steady decline to the bottom rung of the baseball rankings, even got average above .200.

15. Blue Jays 27-25 4th in AL East, LW: 15

We all heard that Vladimir Guerrero Jr. when he first came to the big leagues could win an MVP someday. We did not expect that could happen this year.

14. Brewers 29-25 3rd in NL Central, LW: 14

Brewers did not rise in rankings this week but they still appear to be a team on the rise. The NL Central may be a three team race this summer.

13. Yankees 29-25 3rd in AL East, LW: 5

We have to drop the Yankees down more than anyone this week. How can a team with this much talent playing the way they were get swept at Detroit?

12. Astros 29-24 2nd in AL West, LW: 10

The Astros are playing what would be the definition of a murderers row of a homestand playing the Dodgers, Padres and Red Sox, 3-3 record thus far.

11. Indians 29-24 2nd in AL Central, LW: 11

Rainouts, doubleheaders, trying to hang with the juggernaut White Sox. It has been an interesting week in the city by the lake, hang onto your seatbelts.

The Contenders

10. Cardinals 30-24 2nd in NL Central, LW: 9

Yadier Molina is having a turn back the clock year hitting .292 with his usual elite defense behind the plate. Molina is a certain future Hall of Famer.

9. Athletics 31-25 1st in AL West, LW: 8

Outside of a 13 game winning streak in late April the A’s have been surprisingly mediocre so far in 2021. Good news is the division is not very good.

8. Mets 26-20 1st in NL East, LW: 13

A 5-0 week for the Mets have given them a little bit of separation Alas in what was a very competitive division, Jacob Degrom ERA down to 0.71.

7. Cubs 30-23 1st in NL Central, LW: 12

Javier Baez is maybe the most fun player to watch in all of baseball. He plays with so much swagger you would have thought he invented the word.

6. Dodgers 32-22 3rd in NL West, LW: 2

Just when we thought the Dodgers were about to take over baseball with the return of Cody Bellinger they get swept at home by the Giants, ah baseball.

5. Red Sox 32-21 2nd in NL East, LW: 4

Who would have thunk the AL MVP race through the first two months would be between Vlad Jr. and J.D Martinez. But that’s what I have so far as of today.

4. White Sox 33-21 1st in AL Central, LW: 7

The Chi Sox have the best run differntial in baseball at plus 80 and with way things look I wouldn’t be shocked if this team wins 100 games by seasons end.

3. Padres 34-21 2nd in NL West, LW: 1

Fernando Tatis Jr. at bat in the ninth inning in Houston on Saturday is exactly what baseball needs. That was fun and awesome, baseball needs that!

2. Giants 34-20 1st in NL West, LW: 6

Just when we thought the Giants were fading they go and sweep the Dodgers in L.A. Mike Tauchman’s homerun robbery was most important play of season

1.Rays 35-20 1st in AL East, LW: 3

The Rays were 19-19 three weeks ago. A 16-1 stretch later they now have the best record in baseball, opponents might as well go to dish with a toothpick.
