Baseball Power Rankings Week 5

Hi everyone, we are now going on a month and a half into the new season. There is starting to be some separation between the good teams and the bad teams. We should take a dive into the rankings and see where they stand, let’s do it!!

Cellar Dwellers

30. Tigers 10-24 5th in AL Central, LW 30

The Tigers only went 2-3 last week and had a rain out on Sunday. We have to look at the little things in life when a team is likely to lose 100 games.

29. Rockies 12-22 5th in NL West, LW 29

If only the Rockies can just play all there games in the Rocky Mountains. They are an abysmal 2-14 on the Road and just saw an old friend haunt them.

28. Pirates 14-20 5th in NL Central, LW 28

The Pirates are falling into line of what the experts expected of them. When you have a payroll comparable to products at a dollar store this will happen.

27. Twins 12-20 4th in AL Central, LW 24

The Twins were able to only go 1-1 against the Tigers over the weekend with a rain out included in there. Time is starting to catch up quickly on the Twins.

26. Marlins 15-19 4th in NL East, LW 27

The Marlins have a great run differential and aren’t an awful team but their issue is they have a lot of decent players but no star power at all.

25. Orioles 16-19 5th in AL East, LW 22

Kudos to the Orioles for hanging in as long as they have. But the AL East with the Red Sox being better than expected is a juggernaut this season.

The Bottom of the Middle (or the group in the Abyss)

24. Nationals 13-17 5th in NL East, LW 17

The Nationals went from last to first to last over the past three weeks in their division. Such is life in the muddled NL East, rough series against the Braves.

23. Diamondbacks 16-19 4th in NL West, LW 12

The Diamondbacks just went 0-6 in Miami and New York and struggled to score runs. Madison Bumgarner has really turned it around, four good starts in a row

22. Angels 16-18 5th in AL West, LW 20

The Angels had a nice series win over the Dodgers over this weekend but the way things look is this front office is wasting another great year of Mike Trout.

21. Rangers 18-19 4th in AL West, LW 26

The Rangers had a great week dominating the Twins and Mariners. They appear to be a team that is going to be around where I picked them at start of year.

20. Royals 16-17 3rd in AL Central, LW 8

A disastrous week for the Royals getting swept by the Indians and White Sox at home. Most concerning part of the week was the games weren’t competitive.

19. Cubs 17-17 4th in NL Central, LW 25

Great week from the Cubs with a home sweep of the once mighty Dodgers. We may have been premature on the cleaning house comments made earlier.

The Middle Tier

18. Reds 16-16 3rd in NL Central, LW 21

The Reds are probably right where they will be this season, the bullpen is a disaster. But as mentioned last week this team can absolutely mash the baseball.

17. Braves 17-17 3rd in NL East, LW 23

A series sweep in Washington may have woke the Braves up. There is way too much talent on this team for the Braves to hover around .500 for much longer.

16. Mariners 18-17 3rd in AL West, LW 14

The Mariners slow drop in the rankings continues. The M’s are better than expected so I believe this is where they will hang all year, fun team to watch.

15. Phillies 18-17 2nd in NL East, LW 18

The Phillies four game series sweep of the previously Red Hot Brewers is why we love baseball. Random unforeseen events happen every single day and week

14. Blue Jays 17-16 3rd in AL East, LW 11

A 3-4 Road trip to Oakland and Houston is not a bad feat for the exciting to watch Blue Jays. They will be heading to Buffalo for home games in three weeks.

13. Astros 18-17 2nd in AL West, LW 10

The Astros are not well like in New York. Just think of how harsh the reaction would have been if stadiums were filled at capacity, oh boy oh boy oh boy.

12. Rays 19-17 3rd in AL East, LW 16

A dominating four game series in against the Angels in the land of Mickey Mouse has the Rays in position to be right where they always are, in the mix.

11. Dodgers 18-17 3rd in NL West, LW 3

The Dodgers looked like one of the greatest teams of all time in the first three weeks of the season. But the past three weeks has been bad and why they drop.

The contenders

10. Yankees 18-16 2nd in AL East, LW 15

The Yankees have turned it on in recent weeks, winning 10 of 12 and looking like the team we all thought they would at the beginning of year, Gerrit Cole good.

9. Mets 16-13 1st in NL East, LW 19

The Mets had a great week winning a series in St. Louis and sweeping the Dbacks. Francisco Lindor is still in a horrible slump, but who isn’t this year.

8. Brewers 19-16 2nd in NL Central, LW 2

As mentioned above a shocking series in Philly for the Brew Crew but a nice bounce back to win a series in South Florida. Christian Yelich injury is concerning.

7. Indians 18-14 2nd in AL Central, LW 13

The Indians sure get no hit a lot and the offense is very subpar (even by today’s standings), but not too many teams have the run prevention of Cleveland.

6. Padres 19-16 2nd in NL West, LW 5

They were above the Giants last week but after returning the favor and losing a series in the Bay Area I must dropped the Padres a spot here.

5. Giants 21-14 1st in NL West, LW 6

Many pundits will believe I am rating the Giants too low. I still do not think they have the staying power to hold of L.A and S.D over the whole season.

4. Athletics 21-15 1st in AL West, LW 1

You go 3-3 at home since last Tuesday I have to drop you from the top spot in a very tight top of the Rankings. Still 20-8 since a 1-7 start.

3. White Sox 19-13 1st in AL Central, LW 9

The White Sox look to be every bit as good as Vegas and your truly thought they would be. Their run differential is the best in baseball.

2. Cardinals 21-14 1st in NL Central, LW 7

The Cards are here because they beat up on the bad teams. Back to back dominating weekend sweeps of the cellar dwelling Rockies and Pirates.

1.Red Sox 22-14 1st in AL East, LW 4

The Red Sox did what you should do against the Tigers and Orioles going 5-2 for the Week and vaulting to #1 in the Power Rankings, Betts and Sale who?
