Hi everyone, 1st off Happy Jackie Robinson Day. He was a true pioneer and started a movement that is still going on today. 2nd my apologies on not having our Wednesday tradition this week. Between my day job and getting my second vaccine shot had to put this out a day late but not a dollar short. 3rd our Top 12 this week is the Football Offseason Headlines. As always please comment, these list are all about the banter, thanks for your support enjoy the list.
#12 Aaron Rodgers Hosting Jeopardy
Is that the ghost of Alex Trabek? Nope, that the Packers Quarterback Aaron Rodgers hosting one of the most popular game shows of the past few generations. Rodgers wasn’t too shabby either, nobody can replace the recently fallen legend (Not even Will Ferrell haha), but Rodgers isn’t a bad choice as a future potential host. We shall we what the future holds.
#11 Tampa keeping the band together
The Bucs went on an impressive run of winning three games on the road to get home for the Super Bowl. The Bucs then would win that home game against an overmatched Chiefs team. The Bucs had some key free agents (Chris Godwin, LaVonte David, Shaquille Barrett) but was able to keep every free agent of significance and will have the same starting 22 going into next season. Tom Brady is indeed the luckiest man on Earth.
#10 Dak Prescott’s Contract Extension
The most ridiculous conversation in Sport Talk over the past two off-season’s has been Dak Prescott’s contract sitation. Dak and the Cowboys would finally come to terms with Dak on a 4 year 160 million dollar extension. Dak, and all of us are dancing to Lionel Richie’s Dancing on the Ceiling after this saga finally hit it’s conclusion.
#9 Carson Wentz traded to the Colts
In 2017, Carson Wentz was the frontrunner for the MVP when he torn his ACL. Nick Foles went on a magic carpet ride all the way to the Super Bowl that year but the Eagles wouldn’t have sniffed the big game if it wasn’t for Carson Wentz excellence. In 2020, Carson Wentz was so mediocre he was relegated to the bench and we knew his days was numbered in the land of Rocky Balboa. Wentz would get traded to the Colts who are ready to win now, will Wentz revive his career and become elite again or is Wentz broken like a cracked record. We shall find out in 2021.
#8 About those Eagles?
The Eagles hired Colts offensive coordinator Nick Sirianni to be their coach and his press conference was awkward to be kind. Then recently news came out about the owner and GM meeting with recently departed coach Doug Pederson every Tuesday for a two hour grilling session. The Eagles were once regarded as a top organization but now the Eagles are fast becoming a place than no one wants to play or coach for. Being a good boss is as important as ever in any walk of life for a stable workplace in 2021.
#7 Star Quarterbacks Retiring
Drew Brees and Phillip Rivers were both expected to retire at the end of last season. But still when both of them made their announcements it sent a shock wave through the NFL. Brees and Rivers were two of the games best signal callers over the past two decades. We know that Ben Roethlisberger and Aaron Rodgers could be heading towards the end of their careers as well which is truly the changing of the guard in the faces of Football. Oh yeah I forgot about Tom Brady but he may not retire until he’s like 70 because he’s an alien from another planet.
#6 Draft Rumors and Talk
This is a story in every offseason and this offseason is no different. What is going to happen with the Jets at number 2? Are the Patriots going to trade up? Is Kyle Pitts going to be the greatest Tight End of all time? Does Trevor Lawrence really care about football? Let the banter continue. The draft is in two weeks so we are almost there to discuss new fun facts.
#5 17 game schedule!
I wrote a piece before I created this site and sent it to my friends on what I though should happen if there is a 17 game schedule. I still think two bye weeks and the Super Bowl on President’s Day weekend is the best way to go. We could have a holiday weekend extravaganza! Still the 17 game schedule has brought some serious banter to every fan, player and coach across the land. We get football for an extra week. Which is always a good thing for the fans.
#4 49ers/Dolphins/Eagles Trade
The 49ers, Dolphins and Eagles made an awesome three team trade. The trade moved the Niners from 12 to 3, Dolphins from 3 to 6, and the Eagles from 6 to 12. Is Return of the Mac (Jones) coming to San Francisco? That’s the rumor and well find out in two weeks. All we know is Jimmy Garropolo’s days as the starting signal caller in the City By the Bayyah (Journey shout out!) are numbered.
#3 Russell Wilson Drama
Russell Wilson didn’t request a trade but he said if he was to be traded the Cowboys, Saints, Bears and Raiders would be the four teams he would go to. The biggest company man in football started chirping about how unhappy he was getting hit so much throughout his career (a clear shot at his protectors up front). Russell Wilson (smartly) did not get traded by the Seahawks this offseason (even though the Bears tried very very hard). But with the NFC West being arguably the toughest division in football (AFC North fans may say hold our beers, yes the Bengals will not suck horribly this season trust me) what if the Hawks start 2-3? It will be an interesting season in the land of Starbucks and Inland Ocean Channels.
#2 Matt Stafford for Jared Goff and more
Even though this happened even before the Super Bowl the Jared Goff Matt Stafford trade was the biggest QB for QB trade ever in the league. The closest parallel was Sam Bradford for Nick Foles, but come on it was Sam Bradford for Nick Foles. The Rams sent two first round picks with Goff to the Motor City showing that the Rams really wanted to part ways with the former first overall pick. I will have at some point a top 12 players with most pressure on them in 2021 and Matt Stafford will certainly be high on our list.
#1 Deshaun Watson
Deshaun Watson may have been #1 in offseason storylines before Massage gate was leaked to the public. Deshaun Watson said he would refuse to play for the Texans this upcoming season and demanded a trade out of the Oil City. But since that drama began there has been 22 massage therapists filing lawsuits against Deshaun Watson for sexual misconduct. I am not of liberty to comment on this but I will say some of the information that has been leaked is bizarre to say the least. We will see what happens moving forward but a big if Deshaun Watson does play football this season it will certainly be in Houston.
