Baseball Power Rankings Week 1

Hi everyone, we have ourselves our first baseball power rankings. We already know the Dodgers are really good and the Pirates are really bad. Otherwise there is a lot of muddle in the middle. Should be a fun season, let’s dive into the rankings.

Cellar Dwellers

30. Pirates 3-7 5th in NL Central

It’s going to be a long season in Pittsburgh. At least they have a beautiful ballpark.

29. Rockies 3-7 5th in NL West

It will be a long season as well in the Mile High City. At least Rockies fans get to watch Trevor Story everyday for the next three months.

28. Rangers 3-7 5th in AL West

The Rangers offense has been offensive so far in 2021. I may have sold the Rangers a little bit too high in my preseason predictions.

27. Tigers 4-6 5th in AL Central

Miguel Cabrera is on the IL which has taken away the one great thing to watch in D town this season. Miggy’s quest for 3,000

26. Marlins 3-6 4th in NL East

The Marlins 2020 run was magical ending in a surprise playoff berth. 2021 will likely be a little more of the modern norm unfortunately in South Beach.

25. Orioles 4-5 4th in AL East

The Orioles have got off to a competitive start in 2021. It likely will not last all season but the O’s do play hard, clean baseball, not the worst in the game.

The bottom of the Middle

24. Dbacks 4-7 4th in NL West

Madison Bumgarner appears to be to the level of a Barry Zito signing. The snakes haven’t got anything from him since signing him in the winter of 2020.

23. Cubs 4-6 4th in NL Central

The Cubs offense has been laughably bad so far this season. The Cubs are three more putrid offensive months away from having a deadline fire sale.

22. Blue Jays 4-6 5th in AL East

The Blue Jays have had some issue in run prevention so far in 2021. That could be a trend that will doom the Jays throughout the summer.

21. Nationals 2-5 5th in NL East

We will give the Nationals a small pass because of the COVID pause and playing the juggernaut Dodgers three games in L.A last weekend.

20. Athletics 4-7 4th in AL West

The A’s are not a team I expected to rank this low. They are starting to play like I thought but that first series sweep against the Astros forced this ranking.

19. Mariners 5-4 2nd in AL West

The Mariners will be a fun team to watch in 2021 even though likely not a playoff contender. Ty France may be a player the Padres wish they didn’t part with.

The Middle Tier

18. Braves 4-6 3rd in NL East

The Braves lack of a top end starter could be what dooms them this season. The lineup still is elite and Ronald Acuna is an absolute stud.

17. Royals 4-4 4th in AL Central

Boy Whit Merrifield could hit. The Royals are probably a year away but they could be a surprise team if the pitching holds up.

16. Mets 2-3 2nd in NL East

Hard to gauge the Mets so far only playing 5 games so far this season due to the rainouts and COVID pause.

15. Rays 5-5 3rd in AL East

The loss of Blake Snell and Charlie Morton is already showing in Tampa. The Rays bullpen is fantastic still, will have to see if they can hold up.

14. Cardinals 5-5 3rd in NL Central

Nolan Arenado has already proven to be a great pickup by the Cards. Hitting .300 with elite defense at third base.

13. Indians 5-4 2nd in AL Central

The tribes lack of offense will be a problem throughout the season. Only so much Jose Ramirez can do on a nightly basis.

12. White Sox 5-5 3rd in AL Central

Lance Lynn’s under the radar climb to the elite has been impressive. His ability to pound the strike zone with his heavy fastball has been the key.

11. Twins 5-4 1st in AL Central

Jose Berrios is off to a Cy Young level start this season. If Berrios pitches to this level all year the Twins could win break their playoff losing streak.

Top 10 (The Contenders)

10. Yankees 5-5 2nd in AL East

The Yankees lack of hitting has been a surprise to start the season. This lineup is too good however for this trend to last.

9. Giants 6-4 3rd in NL West

The Giants pitching has been impressive so far this season. If this trend continues throughout the summer Posey, Belt and Crawford may have one last ride.

8. Astros 6-4 2nd in AL West

After dominating the A’s over the first weekend the Astros have come back down to Earth. The rotation after Zack Grienke still is a major concern.

7. Brewers 6-4 2nd in NL Central

No team over the past four years (outside of maybe Tampa) have been more resourceful than the Brew Crew. Christian Yelich looks like Christian Yelich again.

6. Red Sox 6-3 1st in AL East

After an embarrassing first weekend the Red Sox have reeled off six straight and are on a roll. J.D Martinez can still hit the crap out of the baseball.

5. Phillies 6-3 1st in NL East

The Phillies are off to a great start this season. J.T Realmuto is worth the money he got paid. Dude can rake and isn’t too shabby behind the dish either.

4. Reds 7-3 1st in NL Central

The Reds are showing that baseball can be more than homers and strikeouts. They are hitting .277 as a team overall.

3. Angels 7-3 1st in AL West

Mike Trout, Shohei Otani and Anthony Rendon are a middle of the lineup that gives pitching coaches nightmares.

2. Padres 8-3 2nd in NL West

Joe Musgrove has been quite the find for the Fathers. Unbelievable that it took until 2021 for the Padres to get their first ever no no.

1.Dodgers 8-2 1st in NL West

This just in, the Dodgers are really good at baseball.
