Hi everyone, we are in the second half of the season now. Let’s get into the buyers and sellers in this years trade deadline.
Sellers
30. Diamondbacks 28-68 5th in NL West, LW: 30
Trade everyone you can. At this point in time it is time to tear it down and have a full rebuild. Eduardo Escobar likely to be moved soon.
29. Orioles 31-62 5th in AL East, LW: 29
There isn’t much to trade here. Trey Mancini may be someone to dangle in the market. What a fun comeback story he has been!
28. Rangers 35-59 5th in AL West, LW: 27
Joey Gallo and Kyle Gibson are good trade chips that the Rangers will almost certainly move before July 31st.
27. Pirates 36-58 5th in NL Central, LW: 28
The Pirates do not have too much to trade. Gregory Polanco they would like to move but his steady decline would fetch him almost no value in return.
26. Royals 37-55 5th in AL Central, LW: 26
Most of the Royals current roster resides with young players that they would not like to move. Whit Merrifield could fetch a good prospect or two.
25. Twins 40-54 4th in AL Central, LW: 25
Twins should consider moving Byron Buxton and Nelson Cruz. Both would fetch massive returns to a farm system that could use some reinforcements.
24. Marlins 40-54 5th in NL East, LW: 22
With Corey Dickerson already traded the biggest chip the Marlins have is hulking first baseman Jesus Aguilar. He would help as a 1st base/DH option.
23. Rockies 41-53 4th in NL West, LW: 23
The Rockies will almost certainly trade Trevor Story. The bigger question is if they want to trade Jon Gray in the middle of a bounce back season.
22. Tigers 44-51 3rd in AL Central, LW: 25
Outside of Jonathan Schoop and Robbie Grossman who would field small return’s there isn’t much the upstart Tigers are going to put on the market.
Standing Pat
21. Nationals 44-49 4th in NL East, LW: 21
The Nationals even at 44-49 are not out of the race which means they likely won’t sell but in their position do they really want to go for it?
20. Cubs 46-48 4th in NL Central, LW: 19
The Cubs are leaning towards the sellers category but may want to see if they can have a hot week before pulling trigger on trades, AZ in town this week.
19. Braves 45-47 3rd in NL East, LW: 18
The Acuna injury is a killer and Joc Pederson was picked up to help some of the lost offense. Braves are the ultimate stand pat team at least for one week.
18. Angels 46-47 4th in AL West, LW: 16
Angels aren’t going to trade their stars (Trout Ohtani, Rendon) and can’t trade players they would like to (Upton, Bundy, Heaney) probably standing pat.
17. Cardinals 47-47 3rd in NL Central, LW: 20
The Cardinals are the who knows team. Too top heavy to move any of their big contracts and too far back to really go for it. Tough spot for the Redbirds.
16. Reds 48-46 2nd in NL Central, LW: 11
After a deflating sweep at the hands of the Brewers the Reds are currently in limbo whether to go for it or not. This story remains to be seen.
15. Phillies 47-45 2nd in NL East, LW: 17
Phillies are probably buyers at this point. They have too much payroll and expectations to stand pat. But hovering around .500 all year instills causes ?
14. Indians 47-44 2nd in AL Central, LW: 15
The Indians most likely will not do much at the trade deadline. This is the ultimate team that wishes they didn’t have to make a decision in ten days.
13. Yankees 48-44 4th in AL East, LW: 14
The Yankees finally beat the Red Sox over the weekend! They are too invested to sell but not good enough to buy heavy either, tough spot to be in.
12. Blue Jays 48-43 3rd in AL East, LW: 13
The Blue Jays are small buyers as they have already made a couple of small moves. With being 3.5 out of 2nd wildcard and 7 out in division pauses ?
11. Mariners 50-44 3rd in AL West, LW: 12
As we have said all year Mariners are outplaying their win expectancy. Their hungry fans may not want to hear this but they shouldn’t do much at deadline.
Buyers
10. Mets 49-42 1st in NL East, LW: 10
With Jacob Degrom’s elbow injury an outfield bat may not be the only thing the Mets can use at the deadline. The Mets continue to hold on by their chins.
9. Athletics 54-42 2nd in AL West, LW: 9
The A’s have always been creative at the deadline and can use some middle infield and relief help and I have no doubt they will address those needs.
8. Padres 55-41 3rd in NL West, LW: 8
The Padres have not been building up all these years to stand pat to do nothing. They can use another outfield bat and some relief help at the deadline.
7. Rays 55-39 2nd in AL East, LW: 6
The Rays can use a couple of bats at the deadline and a back of the rotation starter. They are one of few teams in baseball with a stacked bullpen.
6. Brewers 56-39 1st in NL Central, LW: 7
The Brewers need an infield bat and an outfield bat and maybe another bat after that. Best rotation in baseball thus far and a good pen as well.
5. Red Sox 57-38 1st in AL East, LW: 5
Red Sox getting Chris Sale back soon is an addition no other team can get. The Sox can use another starter as well as Sale and some bullpen help.
4. Astros 57-38 1st in AL West, LW: 3
The Astros can use some depth in the rotation and bullpen. Plus a power outfield bat would not be a bad addition either. Best infield in game.
3. White Sox 57-37 1st in AL Central, LW: 4
The White Sox have the least weaknesses in baseball (Dodgers included) but they could also use bench depth and another bullpen arm, mostly for depth.
2. Dodgers 58-37 2nd in NL West, LW: 2
With the Dodgers getting healthy their needs are strictly bullpen at this point. But a back end starter is not out of realm with Bauer situation up in air.
1.Giants 59-34 1st in NL West, LW: 1
The Giants cannot hold of Dodgers rest of way standing pat. I can see a package bringing Joey Gallo and Kyle Gibson to bay area being the seismic move.
