Hi everyone, we are through 16 Weeks of our Power Rankings and tonight is the All Star Game in the great City of Denver Colorado. Let’s review every teams first half of the season now, how does that sound? Good, I agree!!
Can we forfeit the Second Half
30. Diamondbacks 26-66 5th in NL West, LW: 30
The Dbacks may be the most disappointing team so far. They have too many veteran players to be an historically bad baseball team, everyone may go.
29. Orioles 28-61 5th in AL East, LW: 29
The Orioles were expected to be about this bad in a tough division just part of their growing pains. Trey Mancini story is awesome stuff!
28. Pirates 34-56 5th in NL Central, LW: 28
The Pirates with the lowest payroll in baseball wasn’t supposed to be any good. But they do compete hard everyday and make many baseball memes.
27. Rangers 35-55 5th in AL West, LW: 27
Usually when you are moving into a new stadium you aren’t cutting payroll and trading players. But Rangers decided to start a rebuild and results show.
26. Royals 36-53 5th in AL Central, LW: 26
Royals are a young team and expectations weren’t high. But last place at the All Star break is still disappointing compared to the way the season started.
25. Tigers 40-51 3rd in AL Central, LW: 22
After the Tigers start to be 40-51 at the All Star break is a small victory. Not enough experience to compete at a top level but will be a tough out rest year.
Mostly Rough First Half, Small good moments
24. Twins 39-50 4th in AL Central, LW: 25
Many would say that the Twins are the most disappointing team in baseball this year. What we found out is the Twins don’t have enough pitching, simple.
23. Rockies 40-51 4th in NL West, LW: 24
Rockies are playing above expectations compared to what was expected of them. The pitching has been a pleasant surprise thus far, they won a road series.
22. Marlins 39-50 5th in NL East, LW: 23
The Marlins were about what we expected record wise in the first half. The rotation is pretty solid as well but the bullpen isn’t good enough to win reguarly.
21. Nationals 42-47 4th in NL East, LW: 17
The Nats are disappointing because of all of the veteran acquisitions they acquired in the offseason (Castro, Bell, Lester, Schwarber), lucky they in NL East.
20. Cardinals 44-46 4th in NL Central, LW: 21
The Cards have beat up on the Dbacks and Pirates to be near .500 but have been terrible against the leagues best teams. They just aren’t great at anything.
19. Cubs 44-46 3rd in NL Central, LW: 18
The Cubs are about where I expected them to be because of no top line starting pitching. But were overachieving before their recent 10 game losing streak.
Some Good and Some Bad not out of hunt
18. Braves 44-45 3rd in NL East, LW: 19
The Braves have underachieved in first half but was starting to play a little better and then Ronald Acuna tore his ACL, just terrible, such a great young talent.
17. Phillies 44-44 2nd in NL East, LW: 20
Phillies have been a very average team in the first half as all of their metrics show. Aaron Nola and Ryhs Hoskins has been okay but not as good as expected
16. Angels 45-44 4th in AL West, LW: 16
The Angels first half started with another Mike Trout historic start but his injury allowed Shohei Ohtani to take over and boy he did, 33 HR’s at break, wow.
15. Indians 45-42 2nd in AL Central, LW: 14
The Indians are about where we expected them to be at the All Star break. They have good pitching but the lineup has way too many holes in it.
14. Yankees 46-43 4th in AL East, LW: 15
Another disappointing team, for a team with their payroll to not be able to hit or have any depth in starting pitching is mind boggling.
13. Blue Jays 45-42 3rd in AL East, LW: 12
The Blue Jays can flat out rake. They are one of the few teams in baseball who aren’t just striking out and homering, but pitching has been inconsistent.
12. Mariners 48-43 3rd in AL West, LW: 11
Mariners have had almost a perfect first half compared to what their expectations were. Only if they can stop getting no hit every month it will be perfect.
11. Reds 48-42 2nd in NL Central, LW: 13
Reds were very up and down in the first half but have got hot right before the All Star break to get back into the race, one of best hitting teams in NL.
Good First Half Will be fun to watch second Half
10. Mets 47-40 1st in NL East, LW: 10
Jacob Degrom watch has been the theme of the first half for the Mets. But they have been in first place since April and will be fun to see if they hold on.
9. Athletics 52-40 2nd in AL West, LW: 9
The Athletics have had an up and down first half. They are a bad defensive team (outside of Center and 3rd) and don’t hit for average, but walk and hit HR’s.
8. Padres 53-40 3rd in NL West, LW: 7
Fernando Tatis had a scary shoulder injury early that many though may end his season. Thankfully it didn’t and he’s become a super duper star, fun team.
7. Brewers 53-39 1st in NL Central, LW: 5
The Brew Crew have two elite starters, an elite closer (even though Reds lit him up last weekend) and not much offense. They still lead a bad division by 4.
6. Rays 53-37 2nd in AL East, LW: 8
The Rays have been about as good as I thought they would be in the first half (solid overall. But outside of an hot streak in early June have been just okay.
5. Red Sox 55-36 1st in AL East, LW: 2
The Red Sox are better than anyone could have thought this year. Alex Cora may be a good manager after all, he knows his players and they play smart.
4. White Sox 54-35 1st in AL Central, LW: 6
The White Sox are the juggernaut I though they would be. There isn’t much they don’t do well and honestly metrics show they should be even better.
3. Astros 55-36 1st in AL West, LW: 4
I admittingly was wrong on the Astros. Thought the pressure of being hated and an underwhelming 2020 (even with the playoff run) would wear on them.
2. Dodgers 56-35 2nd in NL West, LW: 3
The Dodgers have still not quite hit their stride yet. This is scary for the rest of baseball. Trevor Bauer situation is also looming, but LA has depth to be okay.
1.Giants 57-32 1st in NL West, LW: 1
Who saw this coming. The Giants were projected to win about 75 games and they are almost at 60 by the All Star Break. Posey, Belt and Crawford’s last ride?
