Baseball Power Rankings Week 7

Hi everyone, we are now almost two months into our baseball season and we are starting to have clarity between the good teams and the bad teams. Going to be a fun summer in some places and long one in others. Good to be opening back up too countrywide, let’s get into the rankings.

Long summer coming

30. Orioles 17-30 5th in AL East, LW: 26

Disaterous week for the Orioles (especially against their cross town rivals) as last place in 2021 in now pretty much a certainly.

29. Diamondbacks 18-30 5th in NL West, LW: 25

The Dbacks followed up an 0-6 road trip with an 0-7 road trip and have lost 17 of 20. A good way to play themselves out of the race.

28. Tigers 18-29 4th in AL Central, LW: 30

Congrats to the Tigers who had Spencer Turnbull throw a no hitter and have been able to get out of the bottom of the Power Rankings alas.

27. Twins 18-29 5th in AL Central, LW: 29

The Twins needed a series against the Orioles to get it going some. Remember the 2019 Nationals started 19-31, in other words there’s still time.

26. Pirates 18-28 5th in NL Central, LW: 27

Losing 20-1 to the Braves is a microcosm of what 2021 will be for the Pirates. Crazy how they only won 1 game last week and still rose in rankings.

25. Rockies 19-29 4th in NL West, LW: 28

The Rockies on Monday only won their 3rd road game of the Season. Coors field is still a safe haven for the Rox as they are 16-12 at home this year.

Staring into the Abyss

24. Angels 20-27 5th in AL West, LW: 20

With Mike Trout out 6-8 weeks on Shohei Ohtani is a good reason to watch the halos these days. That being said he’s one of few in game to watch currently

23. Reds 20-25 4th in NL Central, LW: 19

Jesse Winker and Nick Castellanos are still having big seasons thus far. But in the year of pitching the Reds pitching has been well below league average.

22. Rangers 22-27 4th in AL West, LW: 23

The Rangers have been no hit twice this season. Their lineup is one that has very few big names but they have hovered around .500 all year thus far.

21. Mariners 22-26 3rd in AL West, LW: 17

To think that we had the Mariners at 3 in the Power Rankings early this season is remarkable. The Mariners have been no hit by John Means and Turnbull.

20. Nationals 20-23 5th in NL East, LW: 24

The Nationals sweep of the Orioles put them back in the hunt. They have too much talent to not at least be in the hunt for some of the season.

19. Phillies 23-25 4th in NL East, LW: 15

A 2-5 week since last Tuesday as the Phillies have struggled with the Marlins so far this season. Jean Segura can still flat out hit.

Muddled Middle

18. Royals 22-23 3rd in AL Central, LW: 22

Royals had a nice bounce back week winning home series against the Brewers and Tigers. Tough trip to the red hot Rays looms next.

17. Braves 23-24 3rd in NL East, LW: 19

I mentioned the Braves were in panic mode just last week. Well all it takes is a subpar week and the Pirates coming into town to give Braves new hope.

16. Marlins 23-24 2nd in NL West, LW: 21

I’m starting to believe that the 2020 Marlins was not a mirage and this is a very competitive baseball team. They have best run differential in division.

15. Blue Jays 23-23 4th in AL East, LW: 9

I know I talked about this all season but would Jays have gone 1-6 in the Skydome against the Red Sox and Rays to fall way back in division race?

14. Brewers 24-23 3rd in NL Central, LW: 14

With Burnes and Woodruff these Brewers are very different than the offense and bullpen drives teams of 2018-2019. But can they hit at all?

13. Mets 21-20 1st in NL East, LW: 12

Jacob Degrom is back on the hill for the Mets on Tuesday as they hold onto first place in a very mediocre yet very competitive division.

12. Cubs 24-22 2nd in NL Central, LW: 16

The Cubs have been creeping up the Power Rankings all season. They were hitting .160 as a team in mid April but have risen to .237 and 13th now.

11. Indians 25-20 2nd in AL Central, LW: 13

The Indians for their inability to hit still have some of the best run prevention in game and are hanging around in the AL Central race.

Playoff Contenders

10. Astros 26-21 2nd in AL West, LW: 6

The Astros are hitting .270 as a team and have by far the best batting average in baseball so far this season. Still most hated team in game by other fans.

9. Cardinals 26-21 1st in NL Central, LW: 8

Lost a series at home to the hard charging Cubs over the weekend. My Dylan Carlson rookie of the year pick at beginning of year is still alive and well.

8. Athletics 28-21 1st in AL West, LW: 5

Same goes for what I said about the A’s last week. They aren’t playing bad baseball but the teams above them are red hot and deserving to jump Oakland.

7. White Sox 27-19 1st in AL Central, LW: 1

After a rough weekend in the Bronx we had to drop the White Sox down considerably in the Power Rankings. Tony La Russa is also very unpopular right now

6. Giants 28-19 2nd in NL West, LW: 2

Same with the Giants as they had a crashing down to Earth weekend at the expense of the mighty Dodgers. The sweep over the Reds keeps them above Sox

5. Yankees 28-19 3rd in AL East, LW: 11

Here comes the Yankees. They are on a 19-5 tear and appear to be arguably the best team in the AL after their weekend demolition of the White Sox.

4. Red Sox 29-19 2nd in AL East, LW: 4

The Red Sox have held steady since the start of the Season in staying in the Top 5 in our rankings. Yes the entire top 6 of the Rankings is only two divisions.

3. Rays 30-19 1st in AL East, LW: 10

The Rays have won 11 in a row and anyone who said the Rays were a regression candidate should have read my season predictions article, they are for real.

2. Dodgers 29-18 2nd in NL West, LW: 7

We should have known the slump was just a mirage. Even with all the position player injuries the pitching is just too darn good to keep the champs down.

1. Padres 30-18 1st in NL West, LW: 3

Ah San Diago, drink it in! Ron Burgundy and Tony Gwynn are smiling down on the Padres. Who as of today are the best team in Major League Baseball.
