Baseball Power Rankings Week 2

Hi everyone, we are now about 10 percent of the way through the 2021 Season. We have had some COVID postponements, an awesome Dodgers-Padres series and a whole lot of parody for this early season. We shall see what happens as we get into the latter part of April.

Cellar Dwellers

30. Rockies 4-12 5th in NL West, LW: 29

The Rockies offense has been one of the Worst in Baseball. Scoring 11 Runs in a three game Series at Coors in the past would have been unheard of.

29. Tigers 6-10 5th in AL Central, LW: 27

Going to be a long season in Mo Town. That was a rough weekend in Oakland. Miguel Cabrera will be back soon at least.

28. Diamondbacks 6-10 4th in NL West, LW: 24

Tough starting Schedule plus injuries have hurt the snakes so far this Season. On a positive note Madison Bumgarner had a good outing on Sunday.

27. Yankees 5-10 5th in AL East, LW: 10

Easily the biggest drop in the Power Rankings but the Yankees are a bad baseball team right now. What happened to the bats, they can’t hit??

26. Nationals 5-9 5th in NL East, LW: 21

The Nationals have been a very sloppy baseball team so far this season. What has happened to Patrick Corbin? His velo and confidence has fallen off.

25. Pirates 7-9 4th in NL Central, LW: 30

I have to lift the Pirates up after impressive series wins over the Padres and Brewers. The Pirates play hard and the game the right way.

The Bottom of the Middle

24. Cubs 6-9 5th in NL Central, LW: 23

The Cubs bats were scorching hot last week. They got that team batting average all the way up to .192. Watch out for the Cubbies!

23. Orioles 7-9 4th in AL East, LW: 25

Cedric Mullins is off to a great start and plays a good center field as well. The Orioles do have some young talent and are improved from past few seasons.

22. Marlins 7-8 3rd in NL East, LW: 26

The Jazz Chisholm Jr. Zac Gallen trade is looking like a trade in which both teams won. Trades don’t always need a winner and a loser.

21. Rangers 8-9 4th in AL West, LW: 28

Great Week from the Walker Texas Rangers getting a series win in Tampa Bay and taking the first game over the Angels in Anaheim.

20. Blue Jays 7-9 3rd in AL East, LW: 22

When will the Blue Jays be able to go back to Canada? A question we hope is answered at some point this summer. The not playing at home is hurting so far.

19. Twins 6-8 4th in AL Central, LW: 11

The Twins have been hit with COVID and ended what was also a tough week on the field for the Twins as well. Hope everyone is okay and recovers quickly.

The Middle Tier

18. Astros 7-8 5th in AL West, LW: 8

The rotation after Zack Grienke is growing to be an even bigger concern. Zack Grienke though is still a stud. He threw an absolute gem on Saturday.

17. Cardinals 8-8 3rd in NL Central, LW: 15

The Cardinals are 8-8 with a 0 run differential. Nothing screams more of an average start than that. The Cardinals I expect to improve as season goes along.

16. Phillies 8-8 2nd in NL East, LW: 5

Rough week for the team from the city of Brotherly Love. Was a rough series at the Mets with Phils only scoring four runs in three games.

15. Braves 7-9 4th in NL East, LW: 19

The Braves look to be turning things around some over the past week. The Ronald Acuna is mildly concerning.

14. White Sox 8-9 3rd in AL Central, LW: 12

Carlos Rodon has been through the ringer with bad injury luck. So his no hitter was a pleasant sight to see. The rotation is pretty awesome.

13. Indians 8-7 2nd in AL Central, LW: 13

The Indians pitching is among the Best in the AL but the offense is a massive concern. The team batting average is .209 so far this season.

12. Rays 9-8 2nd in AL East, LW: 15

After a disappointing home series against the Rangers the Rays bounced back in a big way sweeping the Yankees in the Bronx, Rays aren’t going anywhere.

11. Brewers 9-7 2nd in NL Central, LW: 7

Losing a home series to the Pirates will automatically drop you down in the Rankings. Corbin Burnes 30-0 Strikeout to Walk Ratio is absolutely ridiculous.

The Contenders

10. Angels 8-6 2nd in AL West, LW: 3

Lots of postponements for the Angels last week. They will have a ton of makeup games later this season. Mike Trout is really good at baseball BTW.

9. Royals 9-6 1st in AL Central, LW: 17

Nice Series Wins over the Angels and Blue Jays last week. The Royals are a fun team to watch and maybe a surprise contender in 2021.

8. Athletics 9-7 3rd in AL West, LW: 20

8 wins in a row has showed America what I already knew. The Oakland A’s are going to be a good baseball team this year and give them time to get going.

7. Padres 10-8 3rd in NL West, LW: 2

Same rule applies here as to the Brewers, you lose a series to the Pirates and you drop in the Power Rankings. That series against the Dodgers was great TV.

6. Reds 9-6 1st in NL Central, LW: 4

If the Reds continue to hit at the clip they are they will not be going anywhere. Luis Castillo hasn’t even got it going yet. He has two starts this week.

5. Giants 10-6 2nd in NL West, LW: 9

The Giants team ERA is 2.71 to start the Season. No way their run prevention stays at that level but their pitching does look to be better than advertised.

4. Mets 7-4 1st in NL East, LW: 16

Jacob DeGrom is awesome, Marcus Stroman is awesome. That 1-2 punch alone is a reason the Mets have a probable chance of getting back to the playoffs.

3. Mariners 11-6 1st in AL West, LW: 19

Mariners at 3? Why not, they have the best record in the AL and are finding anyway to win games. Will they stay at #3 throughout the season, probably not.

2. Red Sox 11-6 1st in AL East, LW: 6

The team I might be most wrong about is the Red Sox. They can absolutely mash hitting .288 so far this season. Happy to see at least one team hitting.

1. Dodgers 13-4 1st in NL West, LW: 1

We should peg the Dodgers down a couple of spots for losing two in a row right? The Dodgers are going to win a lot of baseball games in 2021.
